TAMPA, FEB. 9, 2019 – Redshirt sophomore
Bethaney Keen is on a four-game hitting streak, despite USF's losses to No. 19 Michigan and NC State in The USF Opening Weekend Invitational.
Keen (Bradenton, Fla.) extended her hitting streak to four games when she went 2-for-2 against No. 19 Michigan and 1-for-2 against NC State. The first baseman returns from an injury this season and has had two homeruns already in her sophomore campaign.
Michigan 10, USF 1
No. 19 Michigan (2-2) opened up the scoring in the top of the third inning with an RBI double and an RBI single, for a 2-0 lead.
Keen got USF on the board when she registered her second hit of the game, a blast over the right field fence. She has recorded one or more hits in all of USF's games this season.
The Wolverines tacked on eight runs in the final two innings to seal a 10-1 victory.
USF saw three pitchers against Michigan including seniors
Nicole Doyle (Aurora, Ohio) and
Cheyenne Eggens (Vienna, Ohio) as well as freshman
Brittany Hook.
NC State 2, USF 1
USF (1-3) jumped ahead early in its loss to the Wolfpack (2-1). Junior Anamarie Bruni (Schwenksville, Pa.) led off for USF, and was hit by the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning. She was able to advance to second and third on groundouts, before senior
Macy Cook (Uniontown, Ohio) ran on a dropped third strike, giving Bruni enough time to zip home.
In the top of the fifth inning, sophomore
Georgina Corrick entered for USF with no outs and a runner on first. NC State's Randi Farricker sent a ball deep left, for a two-run homerun, giving the Wolfpack a lead they would never lose. Corrick followed up with an impressive seven-strikeout performance in just three innings, but picked up her first loss of the season.
