No. 45 Bulls Travel to No. 23 Knights for War on I-4

TAMPA, April 12, 2019 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team will face rival No. 23 UCF in the War on I-4 on Saturday, at 3:00 p.m.

USF (11-9, 4-1 AAC) spent the weekend on the road last week against Rice, FIU, and Houston, and picked up a win against FIU in a close 4-3 match. Sophomore Alexandria Mjos (Austin, Texas), clinched the match in a 5-7, 6-0, 6-1 win on court six.

Senior No. 56 Ana Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain), has a team-best 13 wins this season, with five wins against ranked opponents. She improved to 13-4 this season with her latest win, a straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-4, against Maryna Veksler (FIU), at court one.

Freshman Laura Pellicer Perello (Gandia, Valencia, Spain), has also had an impressive season, with 11 singles wins, the second most on the team.

Senior doubles duo Vanja Klaric (Gaborone, Botswana), and Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe), are ranked No. 88 and play on court one for the Bulls with an 8-7 record this season.

Scouting the Opponents:
UCF
UCF's (18-3, 5-0 AAC), 15-game win streak was recently snapped by No. 12 Oklahoma State when the Knights fell, 5-2. UCF has two ranked singles payers, No. 48 Valeriya Zeleva and No. 90 Ksenia Kuznetsova. Zeleva is 15-5 at the premier spot and Kuznetsova is 12-4 at the No. 2 spot.

For doubles, the pairing of Kuznetsova and Zeleva are ranked No. 19 and are 11-3 at the premier doubles spot.

War on I-4
The War on I-4 represents a long-standing and passionate rivalry between the fan bases of two of the nation's largest and fastest growing universities. The Orlando and Tampa Bay metropolitan areas, which form the fourth-largest media market in the nation, are connected by 100 miles of Interstate 4 (I-4).

The official recognition of the rivalry and the traditional name, first established by the fans, creates an annual series of scored competitions across multiple sports programs. The War On I-4 rivalry series officially began Sept. 21, 2016 with a competition between the two schools' volleyball programs.
