Remuro Henry Named Track and Field Assistant Coach
TAMPA, AUGUST 2, 2019 – University of South Florida track and field head coach
Erik Jenkins announced Friday that Remuro Henry has been hired as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinate who will work primarily with the USF sprinters and jumpers.
Henry arrives in Tampa after working with Jenkins as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator last season at WKU. He worked mostly with the WKU jumpers and helped long jumper Annastacia Forrester earn NCAA Outdoor All-America Honorable Mention accolades. In addition, Forrester was All-Conference USA in the long jump and posted the fourth-longest indoor mark in school history with a distance of 19-11.50.
Prior to joining the staff at WKU, Henry was an assistant coach at Barton Community College and helped the Cougars claim the 2018 conference and regional championships. Behind 50 All-American achievements, Henry's student-athletes accounted for 44 of the Cougars' 128 points at the national meet, with 26 points coming from the hurdles to lead Barton to the 2018 crown and the program's 56th national title. Henry was named the program's first-ever USTFCCCA Men's Assistant Coach of the Year.
Henry coached at Wayland Baptist University from 2016-17 and was recognized by the USTFCCCA as the NAIA South Central Indoor Women's Assistant Coach of the Year as Wayland Baptist won the NAIA national championship.
His first coaching honor came in 2015 as he was selected as the USTFCCA Central Region Outdoor Women's Assistant Coach of the Year at Coffeyville Community College. During his time at Coffeyville, Henry coached 2016 Olympic medalist Andre De Grasse.
"Coach Henry joins us after having success at multiple levels," Jenkins said. "He has shown the ability to recruit, retain and develop outstanding student-athletes. I have been impressed by his work over the years and look forward to continued success as a member of this staff."
Henry began his collegiate career as a walk-on at Barton Community College in 2008, competing in the 100, 200 and 400 meters. After collecting five All-America accolades and an individual national title, Henry transferred to Oklahoma and captured eight All-Big 12 honors. After graduation, Henry competed for the U.S. Virgin Islands and set numerous national records.
