Bulls fall short to Houston in weekend finale

Tizi Puljiz recorded her fourth double-double of the year with 10 kills and 14 digs on Sunday.

TAMPA (October 10, 2021) – The University of South Florida Bulls (6-111, 0-6 AAC) looked to derail the University of Houston (x) after the Cougars knocked off UCF on the road Friday night, but Houston rallied from a set one loss at The Corral on Sunday to comeback for a win in four sets.

Houston won the match by set scores of 28-30, 25-23, 25-10, 25-12.

The Cougars won set two after a call that originally knotted the game at 24-24 was overturned to give the point and set to Houston. The Cougars carried that momentum into set three and took the final two games in decisive fashion.

Houston hit .219 in the match while also owning the defensive advantage in blocks (13) and digs (79) compared to nine blocks and 64 digs by the Bulls.

Tizi Puljiz (Resistencia, Argentina) led the Bulls with 10 kills and 14 digs for her second double-double in as many matches and fourth on the year. Marta Cvitkovic (Rijeka, Croatia) floored nine kills while Ally Barnhart (Lenexa, Kan.) and Amanda DeWitt (Jupiter) added seven apiece.

Kelsey O'Loughlin (Fort Lauderdale) dished out 32 assists to the offense to go along with 17 digs.

Up Next

The Bulls will move from The Corral to the Yuengling Center on Wednesday when they take on UCF in a War On I-4 showdown set for 7 p.m. in Tampa.
