TULSA, Okla. (Oct. 3, 2021) – The University of South Florida men's soccer team headed to America's Heartland to face No. 4 Tulsa, its fourth Top 15 opponent in the last six matches, but was unable to get the result it was looking for as the Golden Hurricane handed the Bulls a 4-0 loss. South Florida drops to 2-6-1 overall and 0-4 in the American Athletic Conference, while Tulsa improves to 9-0 on the year and 4-0 in The American.
Â
The Bulls have had to endure the most difficult conference stretch in The American with all four matches coming against the top three sides in the league; Tulsa twice, SMU, and Central Florida.
Â
After a scoreless first half,
Segun Afolabi got the second stanza off to a fast start for the Bulls, giving them the best opportunity of the night in the 47'. Afolabi dribbled the ball to the right side of the box and had a good look to send a low bender to the near post, however, Tulsa's Alex Lopez dove to his left and wrapped the offering up to keep the match scoreless.
Â
The Golden Hurricane didn't keep the match scoreless for long after that, netting three goals in just under seven minutes, beginning in the 52' to gain the upper hand. Â
  Â
The Bulls had prime chances to get on the board and cut into the Tulsa lead. The first came on a header from five yards out by
Sergio Pineros-Mayorga in the 75', then on a right-footed liner to the far post by
Oscar Resano, that went just wide of the net in the 85'.
Â
Ralph Montero had three saves in the loss.
