Sydni Harvey Tabbed AAC Player of the Week
IRVING, Texas (Nov. 29, 2021) – University of South Florida women's basketball standout
Sydni Harvey has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 28, the conference announced Monday. The honor marks Harvey's second AAC Player of the Week award of her career.
A senior junior guard from Nashville, Tenn., Harvey helped to guide the Bulls to a 2-0 record last week and was a major factor in South Florida's top 10 wins against No. 9/9 Oregon (71-62) on Nov. 22 in the third-place game of the Battle 4 Atlantis, and against No. 7/5 Stanford (57-54) on Nov. 26 in the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship. In the two outings, Harvey averaged 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game, and shot 45 percent from the field, 63.6 percent from three-point range, and 85.7 percent from the free-throw line.
Harvey had 22 points against the Ducks, including 8-for-10 (80 percent) from the free-throw line, then followed that up with 15 points against the defending national champion, Cardinal, including what may be the shot of the year nationally, draining the game-winning three from about 24 feet out with 2.8 seconds left. Harvey also became the 25
th player in program history to score her 1,000
th career point.
On the year, Harvey leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.9 points per game, which is also fifth in The American and is second in the conference in three-point field goal shooting, hitting 50 percent (24-for-48) of his shots from behind the arc.
USF, currently ranked No. 13 in the most recent Associated Press top 25 poll, returns to action on Thursday, when it travels to the Lone Star State to face UT Arlington at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+).

USF recorded its best season in program history during the 2020-21 campaign, all while navigating the unpredictable COVID-19 landscape. In doing so, the Bulls won their first-ever American Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles, and posted their highest ranking in the Associated Press Top25 poll – reaching as high as No. 12 – and made their ninth straight postseason appearance, and sixth NCAA appearance in the last 10 years.
USF has made 16 postseason tournament appearances and had seven NCAA Tournament berths in head coach Jose Fernandez's 21 seasons. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Fernandez has guided USF to nine 20-win seasons, two WNIT final four appearances, the 2009 WNIT championship, and won nearly 400 career games. For his efforts on the sideline during the 2020-21 season, Fernandez was named a finalist for the WBCA and semifinalist for the Naismith National Coach of the Year Awards. He was also tabbed the 2021 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.
The Bulls posted a 19-4 record and had five players, during the 2020-21 campaign, the Bulls had five players recognized by The American for impressive seasons, including Elisa Pinzan (Most Improved Player, All-Conference Second Team), Maria Alvarez (Co-Sixth Player of the Year), Bethy Mununga (All-Conference First Team), Elena Tsineke (All-Conference First Team), and Sydni Harvey (All-Conference Third Team).
In addition, Harvey was named the American Athletic Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player and to the All-Tournament Team, while Mununga and Tsineke were also All-Tournament selections.
