TAMPA, Fla., March 26, 2021 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team lost, 4-0 to SMU on Friday at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Mustangs (15-7) clinched the doubles point by taking sets on court three, against Alex Mjos (Austin, Texas) and
Margriet Timmermans (Bergen Op Zoom, Netherlands) 6-3, while the SMU's' No. 30-ranked doubles pair of Jackie Nylander and Hadley Doyle took court one over
Grace Schumacher (Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia) and
Amelie Boy (Mauritius, Trianon), 6-4.
The Mustangs clinched the match after winning the first three singles courts in straight sets. The Bulls (6-10), however, had some strong performances on courts that went unfinished.
After dropping the first set, 6-2, Schumacher came storming back to take the second set, 7-5, but play didn't continue into the third set. Mjos was the only Bull to take set one, 6-4 but ended up dropping the second set, 6-2, to SMU's Claudia Bartolome. Third set play was discontinued due to SMU clinching the match win.
