No. 36 USF Defeats FAU, 5-2

Boca Raton, March 7, 2021 – The University of South Florida men's tennis team earned its fourth consecutive win with a 5-2 victory against Florida Atlantic. After dropping the doubles point, the Bulls secured five singles courts in their 5-2 win.

Antonio Muniz-Hidalgo (Barcelona, Spain) and Manuel Goncalves (Porto, Portugal) won their doubles debut on court three against Gerard Escandell and Finn Stodder, 6-2. But it was not enough after courts one and two fell, putting the Bulls in a deficit heading into singles.

USF quickly changed course in singles play after Chase Ferguson (Melbourne, Austrailia) defeated opponent Maxime Lapraille in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. Sergio Gomez-Montesa (Valencia, Spain) earned his sixth win in a row after a 6-1, 6-2 success over Gerard Escandell. Alvin Tudorica (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) bested opponent Finn Stodder 6-4, 6-2, extending the lead to two. Jakub Wojcik's (Delray Beach, Florida) 6-3, 6-4 win over Filip Krolo officially clinched the win for the Bulls and Pierre Luquet (Draguignan, France) increased the lead with a 6-3, 6-3 win over the Owls' Alvaro Fernandez Horta.

Quotable
Head coach Ashley Fisher on today's win….
"Proud of the way the boys battled and invested in their games today. We will do a better job of preparing them for doubles but we couldn't be any happier with the response in the singles. Guys are really committing to playing their individual styles and backing themselves in big moments. We have an exciting stretch of home matches now that we are looking forward to."
