Four Former USF Women's Soccer Players Named to Olympic Rosters for Tokyo Games

TAMPA, Fla., July 13, 2021 – Four recent members of the University of South Florida women's soccer team are headed to Tokyo, Japan, as members of their respective countries' squads. Evelyne Viens (Canada), Christiane Endler (Chile), Demi Stokes (Great Britain) and Olivia Chance (New Zealand) are all former USF women's soccer student-athletes heading to the Olympics.
 
The Games of the XXXII Olympiad commence on July 23, with the first soccer games being played on July 21, local time, as part of the group stage. Canada, Great Britain and Chile are all in group E, along with Japan, while New Zealand is in group G with Sweden, the United States and Australia. The top two teams in each group, along with the top two third-place teams across the groups, advance to the knockout phase, leading to the gold medal game on August 6.
 
USF women's soccer's interest in the Games begins as Chile faces off against Great Britain on July 21 at 4:30 p.m. JST (July 22 at 5:30 a.m. ET). Below lists all games during the group stage where USF student-athletes are playing, with their teams italicized. All games will be streamed online at nbcolympics.com.

Following the group stage, the quarterfinals will be played on July 30, the semifinals will be played on August 2, and the gold medal match will be played on August 6. The bronze medal match will occur on August 5.
 
Olivia Chance – Midfielder – Team New Zealand
Chance made her debut with New Zealand at the 2011 Cyprus Cup, and has since made 19 caps with the team and scored one goal as a midfielder with the Football Ferns. Her goal came in a 1-0 victory over Belgium on March 4, 2020 at the Algarve Cup.
 
Playing for the Bulls from 2012-2015, Chance led the team in goals in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons and assists in her junior and senior seasons. In total, Chance played in 79 games for USF, tallying 31 goals and 21 assists for 83 points. She also took 215 shots and recorded 13 game-winning goals.
 
After graduating, Chance signed with Icelandic club Breiðablik UBK of the Úrvalsdeild, where she made 10 appearances and scored a goal. Since then, she has played for Everton and Bristol City in the FA Women's Super League, Sheffield United in the FA Women's Championship and the Brisbane Roar in New Zealand's W-League.
 
Christiane Endler – Goalkeeper – Team Chile
Endler started her international career with the Chilean Senior Women's National Team came in 2009, when she made her debut in a match against Mexico. Since her start with the team, she has played in 69 matches and has been named captain of the squad. In 2020, she was named to FIFA FIFPro's Women's World11 Team.
 
Endler played for USF for two years, in 2012 and 2013. In 38 appearances in net, she played over 3,500 minutes, notching a .825 save percentage and a 0.904 goals-against average. She currently holds the record for the lowest career GAA in team history.
 
Following her USF career, Endler has played for Chelsea in the WSL, Colo-Colo in Chile, Valencia in Spain, and had a three-year stint with Paris Saint-Germain in Division I Feminine. She currently plays for Olympique Lyon, also in Divison I Feminine.
 
Demi Stokes – Forward – Team Great Britain
Stokes, after working her way through the English junior system, made her international senior team debut for England in 2014 and has since made 56 caps in international play. During the Olympics, the countries and commonwealths (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland) that make up Great Britain combine into one team.
 
At USF, Stokes played in 73 games from 2011-2014, scoring 17 goals and recording 14 assists for 48 points. She was also a two-time second team all-conference selection.
 
Following graduation, Stokes has played for Manchester City in the FA Women's Super League. She helped the team win the WSL Cup in 2016 and in the 2018-19 season, while helping the team reach the finals in 2017-18.
 
Evelyne Viens – Forward – Team Canada
After not making the cut for Team Canada for years, Viens earned her first call-up for the 2021 SheBelieves Cup and scored her first goal against Wales on April 9, 2021.
 
Viens had a historic USF career, breaking over 15 program or conference records. In total, she played in 77 career games for the Bulls, tallying 73 goals, 169 points and 360 shots. She also tallied new USF single-season marks in points (53) and goals (25). The program's first All-American in 2017 also repeated with the honor twice more, earning a second third-team honor in 2018 and a second-team honor in 2019. In total, Viens logged over 5,800 game minutes on the pitch.
 
In 2020, she was the second-highest draft pick in USF Athletics history, a spot she holds alongside women's basketball's Wanda Guyton, as Viens was selected at No. 5 overall in the NWSL Draft by Sky Blue FC, now called Gotham FC. She spent time with Paris FC on a loan starting in August 2020 and returned to the NWSL in March 2021.
