Softball’s Corrick Named Academic All-American

TAMPA, FLA. July 29, 2021 – University of South Florida softball student-athlete Georgina Corrick was named a third-team CoSIDA Academic All-America selection, the organization announced on Thursday. The honor is her second consecutive award along with a first-team selection in 2020.

Corrick was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team honoree on July 1. In order to be eligible, student-athletes need at least a 3.30 GPA and need to be a starter or a significant reserve on their team. The award is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

"Seems like 'old hat' but this is one of the best student-athletes to have ever worn the Green and Gold in any sport," head coach Ken Eriksen said. "Georgina is an incredible woman, a powerful softball player, and more importantly an impactful human."

Corrick is only the second USF softball player to be named a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, joining Tiffany Stewart (2005, 2006). Overall, she's the fourth USF student-athlete to earn a second Academic All-America honor in her collegiate career, joining Stewart, Chris Heintz (baseball; 1995, 1996) and Minna Rasimus (XC/T&F; 1998, 1999).

Corrick graduated in the spring of 2021 with a degree in marine biology and has been named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic team every year that she has been on campus, a total of four selections. She has also been a regular addition to the USF Athletics honor roll.

Additionally, Corrick maintained her role as USF's ace during the 2021 season. The pitcher tossed 15 shutouts, which led the nation, while also throwing 333 strikeouts, which ranked fourth among DI pitchers and is the second-best mark ever thrown by a USF pitcher.

Overall, the Sanford, Fla., native went 24-9 in the circle with a 0.98 ERA, the lowest single-season ERA in her career. Her opposition only hit at a .150 average, which ranks sixth on the program's single-season list.

She threw four no-hitters during the 2021 season, the second most thrown by a South Florida pitcher in a single season. Corrick also tossed USF's first back-to-back no-hitters and the first during NCAA tournament play.

Corrick was also a threat in the batter's box. She hit three home runs during the 2021 campaign, including two in a single game against FAU (Feb. 27). In total, she drove home 10 runs and scored six times.

Corrick is the lone Academic All-American from the American Athletic Conference and is one of four from a Florida university. You can view the entire list of CoSIDA Academic All-Americans HERE.
