USF Volleyball announces 2021 schedule

TAMPA (August 12, 2021) – University of South Florida head volleyball coach Jolene Shepardson has announced the 2021 schedule for her second season at the helm of the Bulls.

USF's full slate includes three tournaments and 31 total regular season matches, including 11 home contests. The Bulls' home matches will return to full-capacity seating for the 2021 campaign at The Corral.

All home matches will also be streamed live on ESPN+.

The Bulls open their 2021 schedule August 27-28 with three matches at the Homewood Suites Florida Gulf Coast University Invitational. USF will face off against Rutgers, UMBC and host, FGCU.

USF begin its home slate on Friday, September 3 at The Corral against Miami at 6 p.m. The Bulls will then travel to Miami for a match on Sunday, September 5.

Following the home-and-home series with Miami, USF will play three matches each at tournaments hosted by Jacksonville University (Sept. 10-11) and Stetson University (Sept. 17-18).   

Conference play begins at home with matches against Cincinnati on Friday, September 24 (7 p.m.) and ECU on Sunday, September 26 (1 p.m.).

War On I-4 matches against UCF are slated for Wednesday, October 13 in Tampa at 7 p.m. and Wednesday, November 17 in Orlando at 7 p.m.

It was a short offseason for the Bulls who played their 2020 campaign during the spring of 2021 which concluded in late March. Shepardson's young squad posted a 6-8 record during the abbreviated 2020-21 season, and featured 14 underclassmen on a roster of 16 total players.

Outside hitter Marta Cvitkovic (Rijeka, Croatia) earned First Team All-AAC honors as a true freshman last season and will pace the offense once again this fall. Cvitkovic led the Bulls in kills last season (214) and ranked third in the American in kills/set (3.69). Makayla Washington (Tallahassee) and local product Jac St. Cin (St. Petersburg) also contributed to USF's offensive firepower, along with middle Ally Barnhart (Lenexa, Kan.).

Maria Idjilov returns this season at the setter position along with veteran libero CC Clausen who surpassed 1,000 career digs last season. Alexis Williams (St. Louis, Mo.) helped to bolster the Bulls' defensive back row last season as a true freshman, ranking third on the team in digs (188).

Head coach Jolene Shepardson enters her second season at the helm of her alma mater in 2021-22. Named head coach on Jan. 8, 2020, Shepardson led the Bulls' program to its last conference championship and NCAA tournament appearance as a student-athlete in 2002. USF made its last postseason appearance in 2018, posting 20 wins and appearing in the NIVC. USF Volleyball has made seven NCAA Tournament appearances and won 12 conference titles since its inception in 1972 and is entering its 50th campaign in 2021-22. The Bulls play in The Corral (1,000), adjacent to the Yuengling Center on the USF campus.
