Late Penalty Kick Gives USF Women’s Soccer Victory over UNF in 2OT

TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 22, 2021 – After challenging the North Florida defense all night long, the University of South Florida women's soccer earned a penalty-kick and scored to emerge victorious in a double-overtime game against the North Florida Ospreys. The victory marked head coach Denise Schilte-Brown's 250th career win as a head coach.

The Bulls dominated possession but just couldn't find the back of the net for most of the game. USF out shot the Ospreys, 26-2, and led overall possession, 70 percent-30 percent, throughout the game. Sydney Martinez (Rincon, Ga.) tallied her first shutout of the season in the win.

After regulation had finished, the Ospreys had only tallied two shots, with both being stopped by Martinez, while USF had taken 20 with four going on goal.

With 10 minutes of overtime in the books, USF kept up the pressure going into the final 10 minutes. Sydny Nasello (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) dribbled into the box and around defenders before being fouled to draw the penalty kick. She took the kick herself and drove it into the bottom left corner of the net to seal the 1-0 victory.
