Bulls sweep Jacksonville to win Dolphin Classic

USF capped a 3-0 weekend with a sweep of tournament host Jacksonville on Saturday.

JACKSONVILLE (September 11, 2021) – The University of South Florida Bulls (4-4) wrapped up a three-win weekend on Saturday afternoon at the Dolphin Classic by sweeping tournament host Jacksonville University in straight sets.

Marta Cvitkovic (Rijeka, Croatia), Amanda DeWitt (Jupiter) and Tizi Puljiz (Resistencia, Argentina) were each named to the All-Tournament Team.

USF dispatched of the Dolphins on Saturday by set scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-14.

The Bulls were firing on all cylinders offensively in the weekend finale to the tune of a season-best .400 attacking percentage. USF floored 17 kills in the opening set and capped the match by hitting .500 in the final set.

Cvitkovic paced the attack with 14 kills while DeWitt and Puljiz floored seven apiece. Kelsey O'Loughlin (Fort Lauderdale) dished out 18 assists to her attackers.

Defensively, CC Clausen (The Woodlands, Texas) had a match-high 12 digs and Amiree Hendricks-Walker (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the net defense with five blocks. Alexis Williams (St. Louis, Mo.) tallied eight digs to go along with a team-high three service aces.

Notable

·        Cvitkovic downed 39 kills over the weekend (3.9 kills/set) on a .337 attacking percentage.

·        DeWitt floored 29 kills on the weekend.

·        Puljiz recorded 22 kills over the weekend at a .425 clip.

·        Williams tallied 10 service aces over three matches.

Up Next

The Bulls wrap up non-conference play next weekend with three matches at the Stetson Invitational on September 17-18. USF will open AAC play on Friday, September 24 in Tampa.

Head coach Jolene Shepardson enters her second season at the helm of her alma mater in 2021-22. Named head coach on Jan. 8, 2020, Shepardson led the Bulls' program to its last conference championship and NCAA tournament appearance as a student-athlete in 2002. USF made its last postseason appearance in 2018, posting 20 wins and appearing in the NIVC.
