Bulls persevere through inclement weather in Colorado
WOLCOTT, Colo. (September 29, 2021) – The University of South Florida women's golf team was limited to 36 holes at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic due to inclement weather and tied for 12th in the 20-team field. Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.) paced the Bulls at three-over-par to tie for 34th individually.
The event was scheduled for 54 holes over three days, but weather altered the tournament. After a weather stoppage in round two, play resumed late on Tuesday, but some teams were not able to conclude the round, including USF. The Bulls finished the second round on Wednesday when inclement weather continued and the tournament was shortened to just 36 holes.
East Tennessee State won the event with a score of 570 (-6). South Florida tied with Xavier and Delaware at 598 (+22).
Green carded three birdies in round one on Monday and tallied five in round two to finish with a score of 147 (+3).
Morgan Baxendale (Windermere, Fla.) tied for 54th individually with a two-round score of 151. Ana Maria Barriga (Neiva, Colombia) matched her with a score of 151.
Freshman Leonor Medeiros (Palmela, Portugal) recorded a score of 157 and Ashley Zagers (Oldsmar, Fla.) scored a 158 as both players finished inside the top 100 individually. Â
