Bulls Wrap Up at Louisville Invitational

Louisville, Ky., January 29, 2022 – The University of South Florida Track and Field return home after competing in the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational held at The University of Louisville's Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.Â
Freshman Alliya Boothe (Bloomfield, Conn.) kicked off the women's weight throw competition where she bettered her personal record with a mark of 56-07.25 at twelfth place. This mark places Boothe at number eight on the all-time list where she previously held the number nine spot at 54-10.75. In the men's weight throw, senior Eron Carter (Palatka, Fla.) finished fourth overall with a mark of 19.61 meters.Â
Sophomore Shaniya Benjamin's (Tampa, Fla.) return to the women's long jump resulted in a first place victory after a mark of 6.18 meters. Benjamin's mark now leads the AAC and ranks top twenty in the nation.Â
In the women's 60-meter hurdles, senior Shaneylix Davila (Kissimmee, Fla.) was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 8.37 seconds in the preliminaries. Fellow Bulls Hannah Connell (Bridgetown, Barbados) and Chakiya Plummer (Hoover, Ala.) followed behind at second and eighth place with 8.39 and 8.83 seconds, respectively. Davila went on to win the finals in 8.27 seconds.Â
Michael Bourne III (Midlothian, Va.) continues to glide up the all-time list after his run qualified him for a fourth place finish after completing the men's 60-meter hurdles in 8.01 seconds.Â
In the men's 400-meter dash, Stefone Moore-Green (Sicklerville, N.J.) placed third overall with a time of 48.23 seconds, making him seventh on the all-time list.Â
Jasmine Knowles (Nassau, Bahamas) came in sixth in the 800-meter distance race with 2:11.36 seconds. Knowles now sits at fourth on the all-time list.Â
In the men's pole vault, Stone Baker (New Port Richey, Fla.) and Kobe Babin (Niceville, Fla.) placed fourth and fifth overall with 5.11 meters. Babin's mark earned him a ninth place spot on the all-time list in the event.
Romaine Beckford (Portland, Jamaica) returned to win the men's high jump with a mark of 2.10 meters. Kendell Mosley (Niceville, Fla.) trailed closely behind in third place at 2.05 meters. Mosley's mark made him tied for seventh in the program. Â
The day capped off with the women's and men's 4x400 relay. For the women, Zahria Allers-Liburd (Miami, Fla.), Connell, Benjamin and Knowles topped the competition at 3:45.85 seconds to come in first place, making them the fifth-fastest in school history.Â
On the men's side, Moore-Green, Elijah Wright (Naples, Fla.), Bourne III, Dre'Shaun Sanders (Kansas City, Mo.) came in third place with a time of 3:16.12.
Up next, the Bulls continue their northern trek to Boston, Mass., where they compete in the Crimson Elite and Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite Invitational on Friday, February 4 and Saturday, February 5.
About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 53 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.Â
