NEW ORLEANS, La. (January 7, 2022) – The University of South Florida Bulls open a two-game road trip at Tulane University on Saturday afternoon. It will mark South Florida's first road conference game of the season and just the third true road game of the year for the Bulls.
South Florida has won three straight matchups against Tulane in New Orleans.
The USF defense ranks 39th in the NCAA in scoring defense (61.5 ppg) and is third in the American. Both the Bulls and Green Wave are among the best in the conference in protecting the basketball. Tulane leads the AAC in fewest turnovers (143) while USF ranks second (145).
Another key stat in the matchup will be the rebounding battle. South Florida is 5-2 this season when out-rebounding its opponent and 0-6 when being out-rebounded.
Russel Tchewa leads the Bulls in rebounding (5.4) while Jamir Chaplin and Javon Greene are each averaging over four boards per game. Seven USF players are averaging at least three rebounds a game.
Greene and Caleb Murphy have started all 13 games to date for USF and are the Bulls' leading scorers. Murphy is averaging 12.5 ppg followed by Greene with 10.9. Chaplin is averaging 15 points over his last two games.
The Bulls continue to showcase their depth with 11 players averaging at least 10 minutes per game this season.

About USF Men's Basketball
The USF men's basketball team is led by head coach Brian Gregory, who enters his fifth season in 2021-22. Gregory was introduced as the 10th head coach in program history in March of 2017 after previously leading programs at Georgia Tech (2011-16) and Dayton (2003-11). Gregory spent nearly a decade as an assistant coach under Michigan State's Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo and helped the Spartans win the 2000 NCAA National Championship. Gregory owns over 300 career head coaching wins and six postseason appearances, including the 2010 NIT Championship with Dayton. In his second season at the helm of the Bulls, Gregory led the team to the best win turnaround in the NCAA, the most single-season wins in school history and the 2019 College Basketball Invitational championship.Â

USF has retired three numbers in its 51-year history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30) and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids, appeared in the NIT eight times and won the 2019 College Basketball Invitational.
