USF Volleyball splits five-set battles at home

The Bulls defeated ECU on Friday night but fell to Temple on Sunday afternoon.

Tampa, Fla. (October 16, 2022) – The University of South Florida Bulls (7-11, 1-5 AAC) returned to their home court for the first time in nearly a month a battled in a pair of five-set matches inside The Corral this weekend.

South Florida outlasted ECU (8-11, 3-4 AAC) on Friday night with a 3-2 victory before falling to Temple (8-11, 2-6 AAC) in five sets on Sunday afternoon.

vs. ECU

South Florida took the match against ECU by set scores of 25-18, 25-18, 22-25, 19-25, 17-15.

Marta Cvitkovic (Rijeka, Croatia) paced the Bulls with 19 kills to go along with a .333 percentage. Ally Barnhart (Lenexa, Kan.) and Makayla Washington (Tallahassee, Fla.) also floored double-digits kills with 12 and 10 kills, respectively.

Buse Hazan (Istanbul, Turkey) posted her first service ace of her career with the Bulls, along with a new career high with 10 digs in the match.

Kelsey O'Loughlin (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) led the Bulls with four total blocks while Barnhart and Ragan Kinard (Lynn Haven, Fla.) contributed three blocks on defense.

O'Loughlin claimed a new career high of 12 total attacks and matched her current career high of two kills. The setter also matched her four-block career high.

Alexis Williams (St. Louis, Mo.) led the back row defense with 18 digs, followed by CC Clausen (The Woodlands, Texas) and Hazan with 12 digs a piece.

vs. Temple

Temple took the match against South Florida by set scores of 25-21, 19-25, 17-25, 28-26, 15-12.

Cvitkovic paced the Bulls once again with 16 total kills, followed by Washington with 14 kills and Amanda DeWitt (Jupiter, Fla.) with 10 kills. Hazan claimed a new career high of three total kills.

Kinard led the Bulls with five total blocks followed by DeWitt and Barnhart with four and three blocks, respectively. The Bulls had an impressive 19 total blocks throughout the match.

O'Loughlin posted her second double-double of the season with 47 assists and 12 digs. For the second match in a row, Williams led the back row defense with a new career high of 24 digs.
