South Florida Falls to Central Florida in Regular Season Finale

TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 27, 2022 – The University of South Florida women's soccer team fell to the Central Florida Knights on Thursday night in Corbett stadium. The Bulls will be the No. 2 seed in the American Athletic Conference Tournament.

With the No. 2 seed spot on the line, the Bulls came out ready to fight. Defensively, both teams were locked in. In the 16^th minute, Central Florida's Dayana Martin found a small window by Sydney Martinez (Rincon, Ga.) and gave the Knights the 1-0 lead.

With the first half winding down, South Florida's Chiara Hahn (Lauterbach, Germany) charged the ball down the field, faked out the Knight's defender for a shot, narrowly going above the goal.

Serita Thurton (Ajax, Ontario, Canada) gave the Bulls their first chance at an equalizer in the second half, her shot going wide. Hahn was fouled inches outside of the goalie box. She was rewarded a free kick, but the ball was deflected and went wide on the goal.

In the 66^th minute, the Knights extended their lead to 2-0 on a free kick from Katie Bradley.

With Cincinnati tying with East Carolina, South Florida earned the No. 2 seed in the AAC Tournament and a bye game.
Lucy Roberts (Cheshire, England) led the Bulls with two shots on goal.
This is the fourth time this season that Sydney Martinez (Rincon, Ga.) recorded six saves in a match.

The Bulls will play the winner of the No. 6 SMU and the No. 3 seed next Thursday at 4 p.m. in game one of the semifinals. Since UCF clinched the No. 1 seed, they will host the 2022 American Athletic Conference Tournament.
