Connell Wins 60m Hurdles to Wrap Up Day Two at Windy City Invite

Tampa, Fla., Feb. 12, 2022 – The University of South Florida track & field team completed competition at the Windy City Invite on Saturday evening.
 
"Hannah had a good run today. It was a good to see her and Shaneylix compete well against a talented field," head coach Erik Jenkins said. "We needed to have a meet like this as final preparations are made for the championship portion of the indoor season."
 
Hannah Connell and Shaneylix Davila headlined the day for the Bulls, taking first and second place, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles. Connell posted another personal-best of 8.20 to take first place, while Davila followed closely behind in second with an 8.21.
 
Elijah Wright finished in third in the 400-meter dash with a 48.20. The mark ties him for sixth on USF's indoor performance list.
 
To close out track events, Nickolas Kamen ran an 8:32.86 in the 3000 meters, moving into sixth on USF's all-time list.
 
In field events, David Ajama finished fourth in the triple jump at 15.24 meters (50-0) to move to fifth on USF's all-time list, while Eron Carter threw a 14.50 meter (47-7) shot put to move into eighth on USF's record book.
 
On the women's side, Annia Ashley continued her successful indoor season, finishing fourth in the triple jump with a 12.17 (39-11.25) meter leap which is good for sixth on South Florida's top-10 list, while Adanma Uzor and Loren Johnson both jumped a 11.93 (39-1.25), tying them at tenth on the program's list. 
 
About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 53 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
