TAMPA (February 4, 2022) – Following a successful fall campaign, the University of South Florida women's golf team continues the 2021-22 season with its first spring event. The Bulls will compete at the FAU Paradise Invitational at Osprey Point Golf Club beginning on Monday, February 7.
The 14-team field includes: USF, Arkansas State, Colorado State, No. 5 Florida, FGCU, FIU, James Madison, Loyola-Chicago, Mississippi State, Missouri, North Florida, Seton Hall, UTSA and Vanderbilt.
Teams will play 36 holes on Monday (8 a.m. shotgun start) and conclude the tournament with 18 holes on Tuesday (8 a.m.). Tee times and pairing will be released in the coming days.
Head coach Erika Brennan (4th season) has announced the following lineup for South Florida: Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.), Morgan Baxendale (Windermere), Leonor Medeiros (Palmela, Portugal), Ashley Zagers (Oldsmar) and Juliana Camargo (Juliana Camargo).
"We are eager to get underway and test ourselves right out of the gate this spring," Brennan said. "Playing in our home state means a lot and we want to demonstrate what we're capable of. We've had some adversity to start the season, but we are back to full strength and looking to create some good early momentum that will carry us through the spring."
The Bulls finished fourth at the FAU Paradise Invitational which was hosted at Boca Lago Country Club last season by registering a then-program record 54-hole score of 861. USF has since bested that mark twice – both during the fall portion of the 2021-22 season – and the record now stands at 852.
South Florida tallied a pair of runner-up finishes this past fall, including the opening event at the USA Intercollegiate where the Bulls carded the 852.
Green paced the Bulls during the fall with a 70.45 scoring average over four events. Baxendale (72.45) and Zagers (74.09) ranked second and third, respectively. Camargo, a true freshman, will be playing in her first event of the 2021-22 campaign at the FAU Paradise Invitational.
