BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 8, 2022) – University of South Florida women's golf opened the spring portion of its 2021-22 season in record-breaking style by firing a team score of 853 (-11) at the FAU Paradise Invitational. The Bulls' final round score on Tuesday of nine-under-par is a new program record.

South Florida finished fourth overall at the 15-team event.

The Bulls charged out of the gate in round one on Monday with a score of 283 and posted a 291 in round two which was suspended late in the day due to darkness, and concluded on Tuesday morning before the final round. In round three, USF carded 17 of its 40 total birdies and finished with a score of 279 (-9).

"That was a gutsy finish down the stretch for the team," said head coach Erika Brennan. "Seeing the live scoring light up with birdies late was tons of fun, and they really capitalized when they had an opportunity. This team has a dynamic and support for one another that is unmatched, and setting another program record today is a great momentum builder to start the spring. We're also very grateful to all the parents and supporters who made the trip to champion our girls in Boca."

Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.) led the Bulls with a three-round score of 211 (-5). She scored par or better in all three rounds (68, 71, 72) and recorded her third top-10 finish of the 2021-22 season.

Freshman Leonor Medeiros (Palmela, Portugal) tied for 15th individually (her best finish to date) with a career-best score of 213 (-3). Medeiros saved her best for last with a career-low round of 68 (-4) in the finale.

Morgan Baxendale (Windermere) tied for 21st with a 54-hole total of 215 (-1). She also played her best in Tuesday's final round, matching her season-low round of 67 (-5).

Ashley Zagers (Oldsmar) finished just outside the top 25 at even-par 216. In her first event of the season, Juliana Camargo (Bogota, Columbia) posted a three-round score of 227. The freshman carded a 75 in each of the final two rounds.

Notable

  • USF's final round score of 279 also matched a program record set earlier this season while setting a new mark vs. par (-9).
  • The Bulls' tournament score of 853 was just one shot off the program's 54-hole total set earlier this season.
