FORT WORTH, Texas (March 10, 2022) – The University of South Florida women's basketball team looks to make it back-to-back American Athletic Conference Tournament titles when it takes on rival Central Florida in the tournament championship game on Thursday night in the War on I-4 postseason edition. Tipoff is slated for 9 p.m. ET and can be seen live on ESPNU. The winner receives The American's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Bulls are looking for their season-long eighth-straight win and its 13
th win in their last 14 games. In addition, the Green and Gold are looking for their sixth consecutive American Athletic Conference tournament win dating back to last year's title run.

This will be the third meeting of the season between South Florida and Central Florida, with the Knights taking the first two games earlier this season.

Elena Tsineke leads three players in double-digits in the scoring column, netting 14.1 points per game, and is third in The American. Tsineke is joined by
Bethy Mununga (10.8 ppg) and
Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu (10.8 ppg), while
Elisa Pinzan falls just shy of double-digits netting 9.0 points per game.

Mununga also leads The American and is ninth in the nation, averaging 11.6 rebounds per game, and is tops in the conference and fifth in the nation in total rebounds (359).

In the Bulls' 58-50 win over Houston on Wednesday, Mununga tied the single-game tournament record for rebounds with 18, a record she set during last season's tournament against Tulane in the 2021 semifinals.

In addition, Pinzan is second in the conference and 21
st in the nation in assists per contest dishing out 5.5 per outing, and first in The American in total assists (164) which is good enough for 21
st in the nation.

USF recorded its best season in program history during the 2020-21 campaign, all while navigating the unpredictable COVID-19 landscape. In doing so, the Bulls won their first-ever American Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles, and posted their highest ranking in the Associated Press Top25 poll – reaching as high as No. 12 – and made their ninth straight postseason appearance, and sixth NCAA appearance in the last 10 years.

USF has made 16 postseason tournament appearances and had seven NCAA Tournament berths in head coach Jose Fernandez's 21 seasons. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Fernandez has guided USF to nine 20-win seasons, two WNIT final four appearances, the 2009 WNIT championship, and won nearly 400 career games. For his efforts on the sideline during the 2020-21 season, Fernandez was named a finalist for the WBCA and semifinalist for the Naismith National Coach of the Year Awards. He was also tabbed the 2021 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.

The Bulls posted a 19-4 record and had five players, during the 2020-21 campaign, the Bulls had five players recognized by The American for impressive seasons, including Elisa Pinzan (Most Improved Player, All-Conference Second Team), Maria Alvarez (Co-Sixth Player of the Year), Bethy Mununga (All-Conference First Team), Elena Tsineke (All-Conference First Team), and Sydni Harvey (All-Conference Third Team).

In addition, Harvey was named the American Athletic Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player and to the All-Tournament Team, while Mununga and Tsineke were also All-Tournament selections.
