TAMPA, Fla., March 25, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team dropped its conference opener, 5-2, against the University of Central Florida on Friday afternoon.

The Bulls struck first in the game. In the first inning,
Alexis Johns (Sarasota) reached on a leadoff walk then quickly stole second. After advancing to third on a fielder's choice off the bat of
Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Md.), she scored on a double-steal attempt to give USF a 1-0 lead.

Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) helped her own cause in the second, hitting her second home run of the year with a solo shot to right-center.

UCF answered in the fifth. The Knights scored two on a single to third, with the second narrowly avoiding a tag by
Josie Foreman (West Palm Beach, Fla.). They added another in the sixth on a solo home run and two more in the seventh to earn a 5-2 win.

Notables
- Johns now has 33 stolen bases this season, just five behind the single-season record set last year by AnaMarie Bruni. She also has 55 in her career at USF, sitting just one away from tying Janine Richardson, Christie Chapman and Missy Martinez for tenth on the all-time list in just two seasons with the team. Her 33 stolen bases are first in the country.
