Green records fourth top 5 finish at Chattanooga Classic
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (March 29, 2022) – Sophomore Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.) posted her fourth top 5 finish this season and led the University of South Florida to a sixth-place team finish at the Chattanooga Classic at Council Fire Golf Club.
Green, who tied for fourth at the Chattanooga Classic, has finished inside the top 25 in seven of eight events this season and tallied five top 10 finishes, including her first collegiate win earlier this month at the Trinity Forest Invitational.
Over three days and 54 holes at the Chattanooga Classic, Green fired a score of two-under-par 214 and was one of just seven golfers in the 105-player field to finish under par. She carded rounds of 72 (E), 68 (-4) and 74 (+2), respectively. Green has shot in the 60s six times this season and now has 17 rounds of par or better in 22 total rounds played.
South Florida collectively shot 887 to finish sixth in the 20-team field. The Bulls posted scores of 303, 299 and 293 over the course of three rounds. UTSA won the event with a score of 869.
Juliana Camargo (Bogota, Colombia) turned in her best collegiate event to date with a 54-hole score of 221 to finish tied for 20th individually. The freshman's second-round score of 69 (-3) on Monday stands as a new career low.
Ashley Zagers (Oldsmar) competed as an individual and finished with a score of 224 to tie for 36th overall. She finished on Tuesday with a round of 71 (-1) and now has seven rounds of par or better this season.
Morgan Baxendale (Windermere) finished inside the top 50 with a total score of 226 and Ana Maria Barriga (Neiva, Colombia) placed 51st with a score of 228. Leonor Medeiros (Palmela, Portugal) rounded out the team score with a 238. Â
