PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (March 6, 2022) – The University of South Florida (8-22, 3-15 AAC) concluded the regular season on Sunday afternoon with a 75-47 loss at Temple (17-11, 10-7 AAC) as the Bulls and Owls split their series this year.
Sam Hines Jr. (Marietta, Ga.) led the South Florida offense with 12 points, matching his previous high this season set against Cincinnati on February 9.
The Bulls went into the locker room on Sunday trailing the Owls, 37-26, before the two offenses went in different directions during the second half.
USF shot just 24 percent from the field (6-25) over the final 20 minutes, including a 1-10 clip from beyond the arc. Temple shot 37 percent (10-27) in the second half and went 6-13 (46.15%) from downtown.
Mark Calleja (Hudson) hit the lone three-point basket for USF in the game, extending the Bulls' streak of 212 consecutive games with at least one triple.
USF had shot over 33 percent from long range in five of its last seven games before going just 1-18 from three-point land on Sunday.
Corey Walker Jr. (Jacksonville) finished the game with eight points and four rebounds, while Russel Tchewa (Douala, Cameroon) turned in seven points and seven rebounds. Tchewa faced heavy pressure in the post all game long and was only able to uncork four shots in the contest.
The Bulls will now turn their attention to the American Athletic Conference Championship where South Florida is set for its third meeting with UCF this season in the opening round. The teams each won on their respective home courts during the regular season.
