JACKSONVILLE, Fla., April 13, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team swept Jacksonville and Florida A&M in a Wednesday doubleheader in Jacksonville. The Bulls surged to a 11-3 run-rule victory in six innings in game one, followed by a 4-0 shutout in game two.

Alexis Johns (Sarasota, Fla.) finished the afternoon three-for-four with two doubles, a triple, two walks and three stolen bases.
Lexie Kopko (Stewartstown, Pa.) earned her first win of the season in game one with
Antoinette Hill (Braidwood, Ill.) earning her first career save.
Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) threw her 15
th shutout of the season in game two, tying the USF single-season record.

Game 1 – USF 11, FAMU 3 (6)
The Bulls took an early lead in game one. Johns reached on a walk, stole second and third, then scored on a passed ball to give the Bulls the advantage.
Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Md.) singled home
Megan Pierro (Lutz, Fla.) later in the inning, then stole home herself to push the lead to 3-0.
Alanah Rivera (St. Petersburg, Fla.) capped the four-run inning by driving home
Vivian Ponn (Fort Myers, Fla.).

Florida A&M cut into the Bulls lead, plating two runs in the second and a run in the third to its deficit to 4-3.
South Florida issued a response in the fourth, with Johns hitting a two-run double to extend the lead back to 6-3.

The Bulls' offense exploded for five runs in the sixth.
Dezarae Maldonado (Winter Haven, Fla.) homered to lead off the inning, her third of the season. Two batters later, Pierro hit her second home run of the season to right-center to make the score 9-3.

Within striking distance of a run-rule win, South Florida didn't let up. In her first career at-bat, traditional pitcher-only Hill helped her own cause by hitting an RBI single that drove home
Bailee Leistl (Valrico, Fla.).
Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) capped the offense's surge in the game with another RBI single that plated Hill.

Game 2 – USF 4, Jacksonville 0
The Bulls scored in the first inning for the 19
th time this season as Sheehan hit her first sacrifice fly of the season to score Johns.

Pitchers settled in afterwards, shutting out their respective oppositions until South Florida struck again in the fifth.
Hallie Bryant (Trenton, Fla.) singled to left, driving home Rivera and
Lauren Bevis (St. Johns, Fla.), but was thrown out trying to advance on the play at home.

Meanwhile, Corrick was through five innings without allowing a baserunner, flirting with her second perfect game of the season. The Bulls added an insurance run in the sixth, with
Alexis Swearingen (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) driving home Leistl to finish the scoring at 4-0.

Corrick entered the seventh still not having allowed a baserunner. However, her quest for perfection was cut short as the leadoff hitter in the inning doubled. Corrick battled through a bases-loaded jam to keep the shutout intact and earn the win.

Notables
- Johns has reached base in 14 straight games, nearing her season-long streak of 20 games.
- Johns still leads the team with 13 multi-hit games this season after her two-hit performance in game one. Overall, six players recorded a multi-hit game in game one.
- Hill had a day of firsts. In game one, she recorded her first career save, hit, RBI and run.
- Kopko struck out a career-high seven batters in game one.
- Corrick has thrown 10-or-more strikeouts for the 14th time this season in game two.
- The starting battery in game two of Corrick-Lydia Castro (Lithia, Fla.) marked the first time that a catcher other than Josie Foreman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) has started opposite Corrick since May 1st of last season.
- The Bulls are 15-4 this season when scoring in the first inning and 31-3 when scoring first.
- USF remains a perfect 6-0 this season on the road. Â
