TAMPA (April 13, 2022) – The University of South Florida men's basketball team has been announced as part of the eight-team field set to play in the 2022 Sunshine Slam held at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach from November 21-22.
"This tournament is an exciting addition to our non-conference schedule which will give us an opportunity to play against some high-level competition," said head coach Brian Gregory. "The Sunshine Slam is a very well run event and we hope the location will provide our fans the chance to come out and support our team."
Participating teams will be split into two pods – The Beach Bracket: USF (AAC) Georgia (SEC), Saint Joseph's (A10), UAB (C-USA), and The Ocean Bracket: Bucknell (Patriot), Austin Peay (ASUN), UAlbany (America East), Presbyterian (Big South).
The format for the Sunshine Slam will consist of a pair of semifinal round games in each bracket on November 21 and a championship and consolation game in each bracket on November 22. Champions will be crowned for both the Beach and Ocean Brackets as well as all-tournament teams being announced for each.
South Florida will also host one of the Ocean Bracket teams in Tampa prior to heading to Daytona Beach.
Complete matchups and bracket schedules will be announced at a later date.

About USF Men's Basketball
The USF men's basketball team is led by head coach Brian Gregory, who enters his sixth season in 2022-23. Gregory was introduced as the 10th head coach in program history in March of 2017 after previously leading programs at Georgia Tech (2011-16) and Dayton (2003-11). Gregory spent nearly a decade as an assistant coach under Michigan State's Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo and helped the Spartans win the 2000 NCAA National Championship. Gregory owns over 300 career head coaching wins and six postseason appearances, including the 2010 NIT Championship with Dayton. In his second season at the helm of the Bulls, Gregory led the team to the best win turnaround in the NCAA, the most single-season wins in school history and the 2019 College Basketball Invitational championship.
USF has retired three numbers in its history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30) and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids, appeared in the NIT eight times and won the 2019 College Basketball Invitational.
