Corrick Wins Seventh AAC Pitcher of the Week Honor of the Season

TAMPA, April 18, 2022 – University of South Florida senior Georgina Corrick was named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the seventh time this season, the league announced on Monday afternoon. Alexis Johns also earned a spot on the weekly honor roll for the second time this season.

Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) earned the win in her only appearance of the week in the second game of USF's midweek doubleheader. Taking a perfect game into the seventh inning, the senior tossed her 15th shutout of the season, tying the program's single-season record. She threw 12 strikeouts without allowing a walk, and limited Jacksonville to just two hits.

Overall, this season, Corrick is 27-4 with two saves and a 0.48 ERA in 204 innings pitched. She's thrown 315 strikeouts, sitting just 22 strikeouts away from posting a new USF single-season record. She's held opponents to just a .116 batting average and thrown 24 complete games.

So far, she's broken the following records in her time at USF:
Record (New Record | Old Record)
  • USF Career Innings Pitched (900.1 | 844.1 Sara Nevins)
  • USF Career Complete Games (91 | 79 Monica Triner)
  • USF Career Shutouts (48 | 37 Monica Triner)
  • USF Career Games Started (128 | 109 Sara Nevins/Monica Triner)
  • USF Career Wins (102 | 101 Sara Nevins)
  • AAC Career Strikeouts (1,178 | 903 Tulsa's Emily Watson)
  • AAC Career Shutouts (48 | 31 Tulsa's Emily Watson)
  • AAC Career Wins (102 | 99 UCF's Alea White)
Corrick also leads in the following categories covering season or career averages that will be finalized at the season's end:
Record (New Record | Old Record)
  • USF Career Strikeouts Per Seven Innings (9.17 | 9.14 Sara Nevins)
  • USF Career Opponent Batting Average (.161 | .170 Sara Nevins)
  • USF Season Strikeouts Per Seven Innings (10.80 | 10.36 Lindsey Richardson)
  • USF Season Win Percentage (0.871 | 0.862 Jennifer Thompson)
  • AAC Career ERA (1.07 | 1.35 USF's Sara Nevins)
  • AAC Season ERA (0.48 | 0.87 UCF's Shelby Turnier)
  • AAC Season Opponent Batting Average (.116 | .141 UCF's Mackenzie Audas)
Earlier this season, Corrick broke the conference record for consecutive AAC Pitcher of the Week Honors with five in a row and holds the record for the most overall honors with 23 in her time with USF (six in 2019, three in 2020, seven in 2021 and seven in 2022). She seven so far this season is only one behind Tulsa's Emily Watson, who had eight in 2017, for the most in a single-season.

Johns (Sarasota, Fla.) went three-for-four in the doubleheader in Jacksonville, Fla. Overall, she finished the day with a .750/.833/1.750 slash, two doubles, a triple and three stolen bases. She also added two walks, a sacrifice bunt and two RBIs to her totals.

In the doubleheader, she also surpassed UCF's Kahley Novak for the American Athletic Conference single-season record. Novak stole 43 bases in 2015, which was bested by Johns' current mark of 45 this season.
While Corrick has had her name in the USF record books extensively in recent years, Johns has made a spot for herself as well. Currently, Johns is the USF single-season stolen bases record holder, but also leads in multiple other average categories and is tied for seventh in the USF career stolen base category in less than two full seasons with the Bulls.

Johns also currently holds the top spot in two average categories that will be finalized when the season or her USF career ends: career stolen base percentage (.971, 67 steals on 69 attempts) and season stolen bases per game (1.000).
