Green collects fifth top 5 finish for USF Women’s Golf
GREENVILLE, N.C. (April 5, 2022) – Sophomore Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.) finished just one stroke behind the leader and recorded her fifth top 5 finish this season to lead the University of South Florida to an eight-place team finish at the ECU Ironwood Invitational.
Green tied for third at Ironwood Country Club and was one of just seven players to finish under par at the two-day event. The sophomore carded rounds of 72 (E), 73 (+1) and 70 (-2) to finish one-under-par 215. The individual medalist finished at two-under-par. Green now has five top 5 finishes in nine events this season, has finished inside the top 10 in six outings and netted a top 25 finish eight times.
In 25 rounds this season, Green has carded rounds of par or better 19 times which is a new program record (breaking the previous mark of 12). Her season scoring average of 71.16 is also poised to break the program record for single-season scoring average of 73.00 set by Ramya Meenakshisundaram in 2018-19.
South Florida collectively shot 885 to finish eighth in the 13-team field. The Bulls posted scores of 299, 293 and 293 over their three rounds.
Morgan Baxendale (Windermere), Ana Maria Barriga (Neiva, Colombia), Juliana Camargo (Bogota, Colombia), Ashley Zagers (Oldsmar) and Leonor Medeiros (Palmela, Portugal), playing as an individual, each finished inside the top 50 individually.
Camargo placed 33rd individually with a 54-hole of 223, just two strokes off her career best set last week. The freshman finished her outing with a one-under-par 70 on Tuesday. Medeiros and Zagers tied for 44th overall with scores of 226.
Baxendale and Barriga each carded three-round scores of 227 to tie for 48th.
Up Next
The Bulls will take the next week to make final preparations before heading to Pinehurst, N.C. for the American Athletic Conference Championship. The championship tournament will be played at Pinehurst No. 6 on April 17-19.

The Bulls are in their fourth season under head coach Erika Brennan in 2021-22. USF is among the fastest rising program in the country, as they climbed 75 spots in the national Golfstat rankings following Brennan's first season. The Bulls won two tournaments in 2018-19 and set several program records, including season scoring average (293.43) and team rounds of par or better (6), and in 2019-20 the Bulls posted a wire-to-wire win at the Old Friends Invitational, marking the program's third tournament title since spring 2019. USF opened its abbreviated 2020-21 campaign by breaking the program team record for low 54-hole team score (861).
