NEW ORLEANS, La. (April 8, 2022) – The University of South Florida Bulls suffered their third shutout of the season on Saturday afternoon at Tulane in a 6-0 loss in the second game of a three-game series.
South Florida has dropped six in a row and falls to 18-13 (0-5 AAC) while Tulane has won six straight and improves to 22-9-1 (5-0 AAC).
Carmine Lane (Lake Placid) opened the ballgame with a single looking to jumpstart the offense after Friday night's 8-5 loss, but was erased on a pickoff. Drew Brutcher (Lakeland) followed with a double and was stranded to end the inning.
The Bulls stranded 12 baserunners in Friday's setback and left five more on base Saturday. USF went 0-for-10 on the day with runners on base compared to a 7-for-19 mark for the Green Wave.
For the second straight game, defensive miscues also plagued the Bulls and led to three unearned runs, including a pair in the bottom of the first inning when Tulane took an early lead and never looked back.
Brad Lord (Crawfordville) suffered the tough-luck loss on the mound. The right-hander allowed six runs (three earned) on nine hits over 5.0 IP with three strikeouts.
The Tampa native trio of Austin Grause, Joey Volini and Jack Cebert tossed the final three frames and did not allow any runs or hits.
Notable
- Lane finished with two of the Bulls' five hits in the game. He leads USF with 13 multi-hit games this season.
- Grause turned in his sixth scoreless appearance out of the bullpen.
