GREENVILLE, N.C. (May 13, 2022) – The 2021 regular season American Athletic Conference champion ECU Pirates host the 2021 AAC tournament champion University of South Florida Bulls for a three-game weekend series beginning on Friday night. The series wraps up a four-game road stretch for USF and is the Bulls' final conference road series of the regular season.
South Florida and ECU split a four-game series in Tampa last season. The Pirates took the first two games while the Bulls answered with two straight to close the regular season which sparked USF's historic postseason run into the conference tournament which led to the program's first-ever NCAA Super Regional appearance.
ECU enters the weekend winners of seven straight while the Bulls have won three in a row, including a 4-3 win in 10 innings at Stetson on Tuesday. South Florida has also won three of its last four conference road games.
USF pitching has allowed just five runs over its current three-game winning streak. Joey Volini has been the winning pitcher in two straight while Orion Kerkering earned the save in both those ballgames. Jarrett Eaton drove in the game-winning run in each of those games.
Eaton, named to the AAC Honor Roll on Monday, is hitting .344 with five extra-base hits and seven RBI over his last 10 games entering the weekend. Nick Gonzalez is batting .414 with a homer over his last 10 games and freshman Marcus Brodil is hitting .382 with five doubles over his last 10 outings.
Carmine Lane continues to lead the AAC in hits (70) and RBI (50). His RBI total is already and new career high and he is seven hits away from surpassing his career high total set in 2021. Lane drove in both runs in USF's 2-1 win over UCF last Saturday.

About USF Baseball
The USF Baseball program played its first season in 1966 and is entering its 57th season in 2022. Head coach Billy Mohl is entering his fifth season at the helm. The Bulls have made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances, including four since 2015, and earned their first-ever Super Regional berth in 2021. USF was ranked in the Top 25 by five different publications in the final 2021 polls, checking in as high as No. 16. The Bulls have won five conference tournament titles (3 Sun Belt, 1 Metro and 1 American) and six regular season championships (3 Sun Belt, 2 Metro and 1 C-USA). USF baseball players have been recognized with All-America honors 12 times, most recently with third baseman David Villar in 2018, and 18 have earned Freshman All-America accolades, most recently Drew Brutcher and Carmine Lane in 2021. Four players were selected in the 2018 MLB Draft, including the program's fourth first-round selection in pitcher Shane McClanahan, who made his Major League debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2020 World Series and was the Rays' postseason game one starter in 2021.
