USF Softball Completes Sweep in Memphis, 3-0

MEMPHIS, Tenn., May 8, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team (42-13; 12-5 AAC) earned its second consecutive conference sweep and its third conference sweep of the season with a 3-0 win against the Memphis Tigers (16-37; 2-16 AAC) on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

A solo home run off the bat of Dezarae Maldonado (Winter Haven, Fla.) was the difference-maker in the game. Alanah Rivera (St. Petersburg, Fla.) also hit a double in the contest.

A pitching duel stifled offenses for most of the game. South Florida broke through first in the third, as Maldonado hit her fourth home run of the season to put USF up 1-0.

Memphis threatened in the fourth, getting two runners on with none out, but three straight strikeouts ended the jam and kept USF's lead intact.

South Florida added some insurance in the sixth. Megan Pierro (Lutz, Fla.) scored on a Maldonado ground out, then Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) scored on a single from Alexis Johns (Sarasota, Fla.) to end the scoring at 3-0.

Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) earned her 34th win of the season while striking out 10 in her 32nd complete game of the season.

Notables
  • Johns stole two bases in the game, bringing her total on the season to 54. She's stolen bases at a rate of one per game.
