TAMPA, November 15, 2023 – The University of South Florida volleyball team (17-10, 11-5 AAC) will travel south to Boca Raton with a chance to clinch at least a share of the American Athletic Conference on the line as they take on the Florida Atlantic Owls (18-11, 10-6 AAC) this Thursday and Friday.
With two wins over ECU this past weekend, the Bulls now hold sole possession of the first-place spot in the East Division and have a chance to clinch the title this weekend. South Florida needs one win against FAU to claim at least a share of the title. The last division or conference title the Bulls won was back in 2002.
With three regular season matches left and the top three teams within two matches of each other, there are five different scenarios, three of which have South Florida winning the East Division outright:
Scenario one: A split this weekend will clinch a share of the East Division Championship.
Scenario two: A sweep will clinch the East Division Championship outright.
Scenario three: If USF splits with FAU, then USF needs to beat Rice next Wednesday for the outright East Division Championship.
Scenario four: If USF splits with FAU and then loses to Rice, then USF will need FAU to lose at Tulane AND ECU will need to lose one of their final three matches for an outright East Division Championship.
Scenario five: A three-way tie can occur if ECU wins out, USF drops two of three, and FAU drops two of three. In that case, it will be a three-way share of the East Division Championship.
