Bulls Finish Day One at Windy City Invitational

Benjamin places runner-up in the women’s long jump.

Chicago, Ill., Feb. 10, 2023 – The University of South Florida track & field team wrapped up the first day of the Windy City Invitational on Friday evening.
 
Shaniya Benjamin started off the day for the Bulls, earning second place in the women's long jump with a mark of 6.14 meters (20-1.75).
 
In the running events, Patricija Roshofa and Doneisha Anderson claimed sixth and seventh place in the women's 400m dash with times of 55.98 and 56.08, respectively. In the men's event, Monte Parker claimed sixth place at 48.58.
 
Shaneylix Davila finished second in the women's 60m hurdles preliminary round with a time of 8.30. In the event finals, Davila claimed third position with 8.27. Meanwhile, in the men's competition, Michael Bourne III qualified with 8.07 and finishing in third, followed by Victor Steiner in eighth with 8.14 seconds. Bourne claimed fifth place in the event finals with a time of 8.06.
 
Shevioe Reid, Daunte O'Banion, and Elijah Wright finished in second, third, and fourth place, respectively, in the Elzie Higginbottom 400m dash.
 
In the men's 60-meter dash, Jaleel Croal qualified with a time of 6.83 in eighth position. Later in the day, he claimed sixth place with 6.83 in the event finals.
 
"This meet had some outstanding performances today," head coach Erik Jenkins said, "Several of our student-athletes earned spots in the finals and competed well. Tomorrow is a new day, and we look forward to the competition."
 
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow at 12:40 p.m. for the second day of the Windy City Invite.

 
About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 53 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
