TAMPA (February 21, 2023) – The University of South Florida Bulls and UCF Knights square off one final time this season for a War On I-4 matchup in Orlando on Wednesday night. South Florida has won four of the last seven matchups, including an 85-72 victory over UCF in Tampa earlier this season.

Tyler Harris netted a career-high 33 points in that win over UCF. Harris is coming off his first career double-double two games ago at Tulsa with 11 assists (new USF AAC game record) and 10 points. It was the first double-double with points and assists for a Bull since Laquincy Rieau (January 26, 2019).

Harris enters the week needing just nine more three-pointers to set a new single-season USF record (88 – Derrick Sharp, 1991-92). The fifth-year senior went 6-for-14 from downtown last time against UCF and has drained at least five three-pointers in a game nine times this year.

Russel Tchewa pulled down a career 15 rebounds in last Wednesday's setback to Tulane. The center ranks second in the AAC in rebounding (8.4) and fourth in shooting percentage (61%). Tchewa registered a career-high 21 points at Tulsa on February 15th. He tallied 12 rebounds in the last meeting with UCF.

Freshman Ryan Conwell netted a career-high 20 points against Tulane last Saturday and Corey Walker Jr. also exploded for a career-best 25 points at Cincinnati on February 11th.

The Knights are 10-5 in Orlando this season where the home team in the War On I-4 has historically seen an advantage. UCF has lost two straight games entering Wednesday, including a 73-71 loss at home to Cincinnati on Sunday. The Knights have lost seven of their last nine games overall.

Former Bull Michael Durr has recently returned to the lineup for the Knights after missing time with injury, and scored a season-high 15 points against Cincinnati on Sunday.

Following Wednesday's tilt, the Bulls return to Tampa to open their final two-game homestand of the season.

About USF Men's Basketball

The USF men's basketball team is led by head coach Brian Gregory, who enters his sixth season in 2022-23. Gregory was introduced as the 10th head coach in program history in March of 2017 after previously leading programs at Georgia Tech (2011-16) and Dayton (2003-11). Gregory spent nearly a decade as an assistant coach under Michigan State's Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo and helped the Spartans win the 2000 NCAA National Championship. Gregory owns over 300 career head coaching wins and six postseason appearances, including the 2010 NIT Championship with Dayton. In his second season at the helm of the Bulls, Gregory led the team to the best win turnaround in the NCAA, the most single-season wins in school history and the 2019 College Basketball Invitational championship.

USF has retired three numbers in its history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30) and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids, appeared in the NIT eight times and won the 2019 College Basketball Invitational.
