Lincoln Breaks Men’s 60m Record at Crimson Elite Invitational

The Bulls win five events to conclude first day of competition in Boston.

Boston, Ma., Feb. 3, 2023 – The University of South Florida track and field team wrapped up its first meet of the weekend on Friday night, with Zayquan Lincoln breaking a 60m program record and multiple student-athletes claiming top positions.
 
Annia Ashley started the meet off for the Bulls, placing fourth in the women's triple jump finals with a mark of 12.24 meters (40-2).
 
Shortly after, Romaine Beckford placed first for the third consecutive meet in the men's high jump with 2.16 meters (7-1). David Ajama and Kendell Mosley followed in fourth and fifth position, respectively, both with a mark of 2.01 (6-7). Ajama kept up his successful day, placing first in the men's triple jump with a mark of 15.44m (50-8).
 
In the men's 60-meter dash, Lincoln ran a time of 6.77 while Jaleel Croal posted 6.81 which qualified them to the event finals. Later in the day, Lincoln broke the program record after running a time of 6.73 and placing third in the competition. Croal came in sixth with 6.83.
 
Kobe Babin set another personal record and claimed second place in the men's pole vault competition with 5.27m (17-3.50). Babin is now tied for the second-best performance in program history. Senior Stone Baker finished in fifth position at 5.07m (16-7½). Audrey Wuerffel and Riley Hunt both finished in sixth position in the women's competition at 3.61m (11-10).
 
Arden La-Rose ran a time of 4:58.24 in the women's mile race, taking first place in the event along with an 11 second improved personal record. Cora Kolodge and Alyssa Wyatt placed fourth and sixth with times of 5:16.39 and 5:20.08, respectively.
 
Nia Robinson won the women's long jump competition with a mark of 6.20m (20-4.25). Shaniya Benjamin trailed in third place with 5.89m (19-4) while Kendall McDaniel finished in seventh with 5.76m (18-10.75).
 
Shaneylix Davila ran a time of 8.27 and led the women's 60-meter hurdles prelims, followed by Chakiya Plummer and Madeline Abega with 8.46 and 8.63, respectively. Davila came to win the event finals with a mark of 8.34 while Abega placed sixth with 8.73.
 
In the men's 60-meter hurdles prelims, Michael Bourne III posted a time of 7.97 and Victor Steiner of 8.00, both qualifying for the finals. Steiner later finished in fourth with 8.02 while Bourne followed closely in fifth with 8.03
 
To wrap up the day, Zahria Allers-Liburd placed second in the women's 400m with a time of 56.12.
 
"We had a good start to the weekend with several individuals winning events at Harvard," head coach Erik Jenkins said, "During today's competitions there were a plethora of personal bests achieved as well as a school record breaking performance. I look forward to competing at Boston tomorrow."
 
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow at the Scarlet and White Invitational, hosted at Boston University.

The USF track and field team has earned 53 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
