Bulls Break Five Program Records at Scarlet and White Invitational

La-Rose, Reid, Burton and the 4x400m Relays highlight record setting day in Boston

Boston, Ma., Feb. 4, 2023 – The University of South Florida track and field team finished a two-meet weekend with a successful showing at the Scarlet and White Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
 
Hannah Connell and Victor Steiner started the day off for the Bulls, by advancing to the finals of the 60m hurdles event. Later, Connell finished in fourth place in the women's competition with a time of 8.79, while Steiner placed fourth with 8.17 seconds.
 
Shaniya Benjamin moved up to fifth position in the All-Time list after running a time of 24.13 in the 200m and finishing in second place. Sanique Walker placed fourth in the women's 500m run with a time of 1:14.82. 

Kendell Mosley won the men's high jump competition with 2.05m (6-8.75). Noah Bitter claimed third position in the pole vault with a mark of 4.77m (15-7.75). In the women's competition, Annalise Zeinemann also placed third at 3.50m (11-5.75).
 
After eighteen years, Arden La-Rose claimed a new program record in the women's 1000m run with a time of 2:51.00. Shevioe Reid also became a program record holder in the men's 400m at 47.21 seconds, mark which was previously held by Pascal Orelus in 2012. Daunte O'Banion placed fifth in 47.96, making him the sixth best performer in program history.  

Meanwhile, Je'Nyia Burton ran a 54.27 in the women's competition, breaking the ten-year-old record of Rachael James. Doneisha Anderson followed in 55.98 moving to eighth in program history. 
 
To wrap up the weekend, both the men's and women's 4x400 relay teams broke school program records. The women's squad, including Burton, Benjamin, Anderson, and Zahria Allers-Liburd, ran 3:38.97 to claim second place, while the men's squad with Reid, O'Banion, Michael Bourne III, and Elijah Wright, won the event with a time of 3:12.70.
 
The Bulls return to action on Feb. 10 at the Badgers Windy City Invite in Chicago, Ill.
 
About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 53 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
