Tampa, Fla., March 1, 2023 – University of South Florida track and field student-athletes
Romaine Beckford and
Nia Robinson qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 10 and 11, 2023.
"The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship is one of the hardest meets to qualify for in the sport," head coach
Erik Jenkins said, "We are certainly proud of our student athletes' accomplishments and look forward to watching them compete at this elite meet."
Beckford enters the NCAA championships seeded third and has been undefeated this regular season in the men's high jump. Last weekend, he won the American Athletic Conference High Jump Championship with a leap of 2.26 meters (7-5.00). That mark is now the AAC and USF program record. This is the second consecutive year that Beckford qualifies in the men's high jump.
Robinson posted a jump of 6.42 meters (21-0.75) in the women's long jump at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational. She is currently the second-best performer in program history and enters the NCAA Championships seeded thirteenth. Robinson becomes the program's twelfth-ever qualifier for NCAA Indoor Championships competition for the Bulls.
Beckford was the 2022 AAC Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field High Jump Champion, and he was also named the American Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week twice earlier this season, while Robinson was named once.
The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held on March 10-11 at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Competition in the women's long jump is at 4:00 p.m. MT on Friday, March 10, while the men's high jump is at 1:00 p.m. MT on Saturday, March 11.
