Softball Continues Win Streak with Win Over Kansas

TAMPA, March 2, 2023 – The University of South Florida softball team opened the Bulls Invitational with a 4-2 win over the Kansas Jayhawks on Thursday evening.
 
Marissa Trivelpiece (Sugarloaf, Pa.) opened the scoring with a two-RBI single in the bottom half of the first inning after a six-pitch at-bat. Emma Humplik (Orange, Texas) and Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hills, Md.) crossed the plate.
 
Kansas led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to cut the Bulls lead in half. They loaded the bases with back-to-back singles and an intentional walk.
 
Payton Dixon (Smyrna, Del.), who earned the start for USF, locked in and got the first out with a strike swinging. South Florida got out of the inning with their second 6-4-3 double play of the game.
 
Rian Eigenmann (Millville, N.J.) kicked off the fourth inning with a single. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kathy Garcia-Soto (Tampa), and then to third on a single from Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel).
 
Eigenmann scored on a sacrifice fly from Alyssa Rano (Seminole). Kadlub scored the Bulls final run on an RBI double from Hallie Bryant (Trenton).
 
NOTABLES
  • The Bulls were one double play away from matching their single-game high of four. They set it against Michigan State.
  • This is the second straight game at USF Softball Stadium where one team hit an inside-the-park home run. Kansas' last run came off one.
  • Eight different Bulls got a hit tonight. Emilee Hanlon (Dunkirk, N.Y.)led with two.
  • Dixon earned her second win and retired four batters.
  • Antoinette Hill (Braidwood, Ill.) pitched 2.2 innings before Dixon re-entered to record the final out and earn the victory.

South Florida continues the Bulls Invitational tomorrow night with a 7 p.m. game against the Rhode Island Rams.
