Tampa, Fla., March 21, 2023 – The University of South Florida track and field student-athletes Kobe Babin, Stone Baker, and Shevioe Reid were named American Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week in track and field, the league announced on Tuesday.
Baker and Babin, nominated for the AAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, tied for a first-place finish in the men's pole vault at 5.10 meters (16-8.75) this past weekend at the USF Bulls Invitational.
Reid, nominated for the AAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, holds the fastest time in the NCAA as of March 22nd, after finishing first in the 200m dash with a time of 20.50 seconds. He also claimed third place in the men's 4x100m relay, along with Zaquan Lincoln, Monte Parker, and Danelson Mahautiere. Thr group moved into third All-Time in program history in the event with a time of 40.56 seconds.
The Bulls will travel to Orlando, Fla. for the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by UCF on March 25th.
About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 56 All-American selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Romaine Beckford won the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championship in the men's high jump. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
