TAMPA (April 2, 2023) – The No. 54-ranked University of South Florida men's tennis team came from behind to take down No. 50 SMU on Sunday afternoon, 4-3, at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. The win improves the Bulls to 12-9 on the year while the Mustangs fall to 11-12.

In addition, South Florida extends its winning streak to six matches while also winning eight of its last nine. SMU has dropped three straight and five of six.

The Mustangs jumped put on top of the Bulls in the doubles portion of the dual to take the point and a 1-0 advantage. SMU took court one, 6-4, and then earned the point with a 6-3 win on court three.

South Florida looked like it was going to take the first match of doubles on court two as Erik Grevelius and Alvin Tudorica led in their contest 5-2. The Mustangs, however, came back to tie the match at five-all with South Florida leading 40-15 before SMU clinched the point.

In singles, SMU took a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court three before Tudorica got the Bulls on the board with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win over former South Florida teammate Antonio Muniz Hidalgo. The win was Tudorica's team-high 12th of the season and his fourth in his last six matches.

The Mustangs pulled to within one win of taking the dual with a 6-3, 6-2 victory on court one. Unfortunately for SMU that was its last win of the afternoon.

Bruno Oliveira started the comeback with a dominating 6-1, 6-2 win on court one – his 10th of the season and his fifth straight – to make the score 3-2 Mustangs before Elijah Cham brought the dual even at three matches apiece with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 win on court five.

That left it all up to Thomas Pavlekovich-Smith on court six who came through in the end with an impressive 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) gut-check win to close out the afternoon for the Bulls.
