TAMPA, Fla. (April 6, 2023) – The No. 53-ranked University of South Florida men's tennis team prepares to close out its eight-match homestand against No. 57 Central Florida in the War in I-4. First serve at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts is set for 2 p.m.
Their last time out was on April 3, when the Bulls lost against No. 43 Tulane, 4-1. This was their first loss since March 6 when they faced No. 49 Texas A&M (7-0). South Florida is 8-1 at home winning eight of its last ten matches.
Davide Tortora played his way back into the ITA Singles rankings this week at No. 118. The junior from Verona, Italy has won four out of his last six singles matches on court one.
Sophomore Thomas Pavlekovich-Smith has also seen success on the courts as of late. The Australian native has won his last four singles matches, which includes earning the deciding point in USF's 4-3 win against No. 50 SMU on April 2.
This will be the 22nd meeting between the Bulls and Knights, with South Florida dominating the record 14-7.
No. 57 Central Florida enters the match with a 7-11 record. Its most recent outing resulted in a 4-0 win against Tulane on Wednesday. The Knights have two ranked players by the ITA in No. 98 Bogdan Pavel and No. 115 Liam Branger.
