LAFAYETTE, La. (August 20, 2023) – The University of South Florida Bulls (1-1) wrapped up their two-game road trip to begin the 2023 campaign with a 2-0 setback at Louisiana Lafayette (1-0-1) on Sunday afternoon. South Florida opened the new season on Thursday with a 1-0 victory at LSU.
The Ragin' Cajuns netted a goal in each half on Sunday while blanking the Bulls on offense. The home team found the back of the net first off a corner kick with 7:30 remaining in the first half as the teams kicked off the afternoon with the temperature sitting at 101 degrees.
The Bulls owned the edge in total shots, 14-12, and corners, 6-4, but the Ragin' Cajuns had six shots on goal compared to just two for USF. The Bulls uncorked nine shots in the second half and had six corner attempts, but Louisiana kept USF off the scoreboard.
Anna Sutter (Herisau, Switzerland) accounted for five of USF's shots and Gentiana Fetaj (Minden, Germany) had three, including one on goal off a free kick early in the second half, but was denied the equalizer.
Notable
· Sunday was the first-ever meeting between the Bulls and Ragin' Cajuns.
· Sunday was the second straight game the Bulls kicked off in Louisiana with the heat index well over 100 degrees and saw the game stopped in each half for a hydration break.
· Arden La-Rose (Toronto, Canada) recorded a career-high four saves in the loss.

The 2023 season marks the 17th and final for head coach Denise Schilte-Brown at the helm of the Bulls. Schilte-Brown guided South Florida to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament in 2010 and the Bulls have made eight total postseason appearances (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021) in the last 13 years. USF posted five consecutive seasons with a conference championship, winning the regular-season title in 2018, 2020 and 2021, while earning the tournament crown in 2017, 2019 and 2020. USF alum and Olympic Gold Medalist, Evelyne Viens, was selected fifth overall in the NWSL Draft by the Sky Blue FC, now Gotham FC. Viens was one of four Pro Bulls to participate in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
