South Florida Travels North for Showdown with No. 2 Florida State

TAMPA, Fla. (September 2, 2023) – The University of South Florida women's soccer team takes to the road for a Sunshine State showdown with No. 2 ranked Florida State on Sunday, Sept. 3. First touch for Sunday in Tallahassee is slated for 2 p.m. on ACC Network+.
 
The Bulls are coming off a 2-0 loss against the FGCU Eagles in the last match. South Florida has recorded 20 or more shots and 10 or more shots on goal in back-to-back matches. USF enters Sunday with a 2-2 record, while FSU is 2-0.
 
Bulls Against Ranked Opponents
South Florida is 9-38-4 all-time against ranked opponents with its last victory coming against Washington, 2-0, in the NCAA Tournament on November 22, 2019.
 
Bulls at a Glance
Gentiana Fetaj and Anna Sutter are tied for the team lead with four points. Sutter has two goals, while Fetaj has two assists and one goal. Georgia Brown, Kouri Peace, and Peyton Vincze all have one goal on the season. Linnea Nestor, Elyse Thornton, and Serita Thurton have dished out one assist each. Arden La-Rose has started all four matches for USF and has made seven saves. Leire Herraez Gallach has appeared in two contests and has made two saves.  
 
Series History with FSU
The Seminoles lead the series 10-0-1 and have won the last nine meetings. FSU won the last meeting 2-1 in the NCAA Tournament on November 24, 2019.
 
Scouting the Seminoles
Florida State is led by reigning ACC Player of the Week, Taylor Huff. Huff recorded two goals during that week, both of which were game-winning goals. She has five points on the season as she added an assist during the match against TCU. Onyi Echegini and Beata Olsson are the only other Seminoles with goals, with one each. Cristina Roque has started both matches in goal for Florida State. In those two matches, she has made four saves and has a save percentage of .800. She has surrendered just one goal on the year.

The 2023 season marks the 17th and final for head coach Denise Schilte-Brown at the helm of the Bulls. Schilte-Brown guided South Florida to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament in 2010 and the Bulls have made eight total postseason appearances (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021) in the last 13 years. USF posted five consecutive seasons with a conference championship, winning the regular-season title in 2018, 2020, and 2021, while earning the tournament crown in 2017, 2019, and 2020. USF alum and Olympic Gold Medalist, Evelyne Viens, was selected fifth overall in the NWSL Draft by the Sky Blue FC, now Gotham FC. Viens was one of four Pro Bulls to participate in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
