USF Men’s Tennis picks up 6-1 victory in home opener

The Bulls swept Florida Southern in doubles play and took all but one singles court.

TAMPA (January 21, 2024) – The University of South Florida men's tennis team opened its spring campaign at home on Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over the Florida Southern College Mocs.

South Florida swept the doubles courts and claimed all but one of the singles courts, which was decided in a tiebreaker after the remainder of the matches had already concluded.

Bruno Oliveira and Tom Pavlekovich-Smith scored the first win of the day with a score of 6-2 in Doubles No. 2. Ben Hudson and Sam Frizelle sealed the team points in Doubles No. 3 with a 6-4 victory. Meanwhile, the No. 9-nationally ranked duo of Alvin Tudorica and Erik Grevelius battled for a 7-5 triumph.

Tudorica, ranked No. 27 in singles play, made short work of his opponent on Court 1 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Grevelius followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win in Singles No. 2 and Tom Pisane sealed the USF team victory with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph in Singles No. 5.

At Singles No. 6, Agustin Cuellar tallied a 6-0, 6-4 win and Oliveria went on to notch at 6-4, 6-1 win in Singles No. 3.

The Bulls will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee on January 27-28 for a pair of matches at the ITA Kickoff. South Florida opens play against host and No. 6 Tennessee on Saturday, January 27 and will take on either Washington or Oklahoma the following day.
