South Florida Men’s Soccer Comes Up Short Against Tulsa

Tampa, Fla., Oct. 26, 2024 – The University of South Florida men's soccer team (5-5-4, 3-3 AAC) fell to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (3-8-3, 2-3-1 AAC) in a heartbreaking 2-1 loss on Saturday night.
 
In 26th minute, Gunnar Studenhofft had the opportunity to get the Bulls on the board, but the Golden Hurricane goalie earned the save. In the 36th minute, Wes Bottenburg connected on a free-kick header from Alvaro Torrijos to put the Golden Hurricane up 1-0. The Bulls closed out the first half with two shots, one was on goal.
 
John Adekunle tied the match in the 58th minute with a right-footed goal from Lovro Kostanjsek. It was Adekunle's first goal of the season. Studenhofft had the opportunity to give the Bulls the lead with less than 10 minutes, but his shot narrowly missed the goal. Tulsa scored the game-deciding goal in the 87th minute with a goal from Camilo Vargas.
 
NOTABLE NUMBERS
  • Adekunle scored his first goal of his Division I career and of the season.
  • Kostanjsek registered his fourth assist of the season and the seventh of his career.
  • South Florida still leads the all-time series 10-6-2.
  • Studenhofft and Adekunle led the Bulls with three shots.

South Florida will travel to Birmingham, Alabama, to close out the 2024 regular season on Friday. The Bulls will take on the UAB Blazers at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
