USF Volleyball Falls to Wichita State in AAC Semifinals

WICHITA, Kan., November 23, 2024 – The University of South Florida volleyball team (19-10, 14-2 AAC) fell to the No. 4 seed Wichita State Shockers (17-13, 10-6AAC) in the Semifinals on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Bulls lost with scores of 21-25, 24-26, 22-25.
 
Maria Clara Andrade led the Bulls with ten kills, the only Bull with double-digit kills. She finished with ten digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Andrade led the match with three service aces. Naiya Sawtelle followed with eight, while Imani Hartfield finished with seven.
 
Amelia Wass de Czege, Bellamy Parker, Jalynn Brown, and Tatiana Johnson made appearances in the match. Parker recorded her first collegiate kill and had two digs. Wass de Czege had two kills, four digs, and a block assist.
 
Caroline Dykes dished out 31 assists and had 11 digs for her 12th double-double of the season. She also had three kills.
 
Ally Cavanaugh led South Florida with four blocks. She had three block assists and one solo block.
 
Wichita State took a 19-11 lead, forcing the Bulls to fight back. South Florida answered with a 7-0 run to cut Wichita State's lead to one, but the Shockers took set one.
 
The second set was a battle with both teams tying 13 times. The Bulls tied the Shockers at 24, but the Shockers took the two-set lead.
 
Wichita State held the Bulls to a .067 hitting percentage in the final set.

Head coach Jolene Shepardson enters her fifth season at the helm of her alma mater in 2024. Named head coach on Jan. 8, 2020, Shepardson led the Bulls to a conference championship and the program's last NCAA tournament appearance as a student-athlete in 2002. South Florida won the AAC East Division title in 2023, made a postseason appearance in the NIVC, won three matches, and advanced to the Fab Four to mark the longest postseason run in program history.
