USF Men’s Basketball Falls to Undefeated Utah State

LOGAN, Utah (December 14, 2024) – The University of South Florida men's basketball team returned to the court on Saturday against undefeated Utah State. The Bulls finished with three players in double digits but fell to the Aggies, 88-67.
 
With the loss, South Florida fell to 5-5 on the season, while Utah State improved to 10-0 on the year.
 
Quincy Ademokoya recorded his second game in double figures with a team-high 12 points. Kasen Jennings finished in double figures for the sixth time this season with 11 points. He paced the team with five assists. Brandon Stroud closed out the double-digit scorers with 10 points. He led the team with five rebounds. Stroud and Jayden Reid tied for a team-high two steals. CJ Brown tied for a game-high two blocks. South Florida extended its streak to 30 games with at least 25 rebounds and 10 assists.
 
The Bulls opened the game on a 5-0 run and forced three turnovers. The Aggies finally got on the board, but South Florida held a 5-2 at the first media timeout. Utah State outscored South Florida 8-4 for the next four minutes and took a 10-9 lead with 11:43 left in the first half.
 
With the Bulls down 14-12, Jennings made a great defensive play and poked the ball away from the Aggies. The ball went to Brown, who took it to the rim for the slam dunk.
 
Utah State went on a 9-3 run and took a 23-17 lead with just over seven minutes left until the break. The Aggies held a 14-point lead, 37-23, with 3:27 left in the first half. The Bulls picked up the defensive intensity and held the Aggies scoreless for the final 3:27 of the first stanza. South Florida cut the deficit to just six, 37-31, as the game went to the break.
 
Utah State opened the half outscoring South Florida 9-7 and extended its lead to 46-38 with 15:57 left in regulation. The Aggies extended their lead to 54-42 with just over 13 minutes left on the clock. USU extended its lead to 62-46 over the next three minutes of play.
 
The Bulls continued to battle and outscored the Aggies 8-7 and cut the deficit to 69-54. South Florida kept the defensive intensity up and held Utah State to just one field goal over the next 3:45, but the Aggies had a 77-58 lead with just under four minutes left. Utah State went on to win 88-67.
 
Mason Falslev recorded a game-high 27 points for Utah State and collected a team-high nine rebounds. Ian Martinez finished with 15 points. Karson Templin chipped in with 12 points, while Aubin Gateretse added 11.
