Bulls Add Kelsey Dossey as Assistant Coach

February 02, 2024

TAMPA, Fla. (February 2, 2024) – Head Coach Chris Brown and the University of South Florida women's soccer program announced the addition of Kelsey Dossey to the coaching staff on Friday.

"Kelsey will be a tremendous addition to our staff and program," said Coach Brown. "Her prior coaching experience at two highly successful college programs as well as her journey as a professional player will allow her to successfully connect with current and future student-athletes at USF. She is extremely driven, focused, and competitive, and will invest everything she has in helping the young women in our program reach their potential both on and off the pitch. We are beyond excited to welcome Kelsey to the USF Bull family!"

Dossey brings extensive knowledge as a player and a coach to Tampa. She spent the last season as an assistant coach at Samford and aided the team to a Southern Conference Tournament final appearance. The Bulldogs posted a 12-4-5 overall record with Dossey's guidance to the team's goalkeepers. Samford recorded 13 shutouts.

"I am eager and excited about this new opportunity and greatly humbled to work within a program that I believe will both flourish and continue to achieve great success under the leadership of Chris Brown," said Coach Dossey. "I am anticipating great growth not only as a coach but as an individual and looking forward to stepping into a role that will push me further in both of these areas."

Before Samford, Dossey spent a season at Arkansas State for the 2022 campaign. She worked with the Red Wolves keepers and helped lead the team to a 7-2-1 record in Sun Belt play and a first-place finish in the West Division. The Red Wolves keepers recorded a .795 save percentage and a 1.00 goals-against average, both good for fourth in the Sun Belt Conference.

Prior to beginning her coaching career, Dossey gained extensive experience playing professional soccer, both overseas and in the United States. She signed her first professional contract with FF Lugano 1976 in Switzerland, competing in both the top Swiss league and the Champions League. She started five matches in league play, earning two clean sheets, and also played all 90 minutes against Manchester City in the Champions League Round of 32.

After her time in Switzerland, Dossey signed with RCD Espanyol in Barcelona and competed in La Liga, the highest tier of professional soccer in Spain. She appeared in 13 games in the 2020-21 season and earned a Player of the Week nod after her performance against Real Sociedad.

Following her time overseas, Dossey signed with the NWSL's Chicago Red Stars, after spending time training with both the Kansas City Current and the Washington Spirit. She remained with the Red Stars from April to August 2021

The 2024 season will be the first with Chris Brown at the helm. He spent the last 17 seasons as the associate head coach. Brown helped lead the Bulls to three AAC regular season titles, three AAC Tournament titles, and eight NCAA Tournament appearances – winning a conference title every year from 2017-21 while making five straight NCAA appearances during that period. Brown helped lead the Bulls to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010, a program-record 16 wins and program-best NCAA Tournament third-round appearance in 2019, both conference regular season and tournament titles in 2020, and a string of 10 straight seasons with 10 or more wins (2012-21). Brown has helped lead the Bulls to every NCAA appearance in program history, including two appearances in the second round, and three AAC Championship Game appearances.

As associate head coach, he mentored the program's first All-American and recent USF Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Evelyne Viens, who went on to earn three total All-America honors and an Olympic gold medal with the Canadian National Team at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. Goalie Sydney Martinez (2020) and forward Sydny Nasello (2020 and 2021) also earned All-America honors and were among the Bulls that have earned a total of eight AAC Offensive Player of the Year, AAC Midfielder of the Year, AAC Defensive Player of the Year or AAC Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Players he has coached hold every program's individual record and most, if not all, of the top 10 marks in every category.
