TAMPA (February 24, 2024) – It was a grueling and heartbreaking Saturday afternoon for the University of South Florida (5-6) men's tennis team as the No. 55-ranked Bulls were outlasted twice in a Saturday doubleheader. No. 66 Santa Clara (6-2) and Troy (9-2) each left Tampa with 4-3 wins over South Florida.
The Bulls dropped the doubles point in both matches on Saturday, and despite a number of stellar performances in singles action, USF was unable to make up the difference on the team scoreboard.
No. 36
Alvin Tudorica,
Erik Grevelius and
Tom Pisane each had to battle back from a first set loss on their respective courts and emerged winners in three sets against Santa Clara. Tudorica's came from behind against the No. 52-ranked player in the country and Grevelius' comeback win was against the No. 123-ranked player.
On Court 5, the final court remaining,
Elijah Cham, who entered the weekend 5-2 in singles play, won his first set, 6-1. He then was narrowly edged in a 7-6 (7-4) tiebreaker to force the final set and suffered a 6-3 loss as Santa Clara clinched the match.
